Lacoste Legends Launch: A Party Fit For a Sporting King.
To celebrate their soon to be released Legends collection Lacoste hosted a sport infused jamboree.
Tennis player René Lacoste was renowned amongst sporting fans and feared by his opponents for his tenacity on the court, earning him the nickname 'The Crocodile'. Embracing his reputation, René gave birth to the Lacoste brand which continues to offer a stylish suit of armour to those both on and off the tennis lawn.
With legendary René at the root of the brand, this year sees Lacoste celebrate their beginnings by inviting twelve greats from the worlds of fashion, music and retail to collaborate on the design of a trainer. i-D's Terry Jones joins Christophe Lemaire and Sébastien Tellier on the star-filled roster.
Launching the Legends event in Berlin, Lacoste embraced their sporting heritage. One time swimming pool now Berlin hotspot Stadtbad was the venue of choice. The 'pool area' became a tennis-court-come-dance-floor for the evening, and as Germany battled against Spain in the World Cup semi finals, party-goers kicked back on the lawn and watched the match unfold. Refusing to let Germany's defeat get them down, the whistle blew and the revellers partied late to the sounds of DJ James Pants and Jazzie B.
The sneakers are being kept in tightly locked boxes for a couple of months yet but i-D was granted an exclusive look and the results won't disappoint. The Legends collection will be available from selected outlets from 12 December but keep your eyes glued to i-D Online and our upcoming issues in the meanwhile for a sneaker peak of the cracking kicks!
