Ahead of his appearance at Wednesday's Culture Clash event at London's Roundhouse Theatre, UK soundsystem legend and Soul II Soul founder Jazzie B gave a lecture at Red Bull Music Academy in which he discussed his musical history alongside the heritage of UK music and soundsystem culture.

“The interesting thing about a sound clash/culture clash is it’s a throwback to the traditional sound systems. Because everybody has used the term soundsystem for so many years.

Now we’re gonna get the opportunity to really see how people define soundsystems and I think that this particular culture clash is so important because we’re gonna look at different genres of music that have managed to influence each other.

I love the idea of it being DMZ and Mala and them guys in dubstep which is the latest British phenomenon. I love the idea of the evolution of the British sound where Metalheadz are involved. Obviously without a doubt as a hybrid of the whole sonic and actual musical side of it there’s Soul II Soul. And it’s the traditional roots of a soundsystem where Trojan are concerned.  You’ve really got some serious links in terms of what the whole soundsystem culture has evolved to!”

Jazzie B was awarded with an OBE by the Queen in the 2008 New Year Honours for his "rich contribution to British black music and culture and the continuous work done to support young people".
