22nd June: Soul II Soul - London
SOUL II SOUL returns...
To the Electric (formerly The Fridge)
Back in 1989 when we dropped our Soul II Soul “Club Classics Vol 1” album, little did we know the album became the soundtrack of a generation, heralding a new era of creativity for the British music scene. Beyond the music there was our “a happy face, a thumping bass, for a lovin’ race” ethos, that tied together the various aspects of the movement.
Out of that came one our most significant legacies, the club nights we hosted throughout the nineties at The Fridge, Brixton – and now all this time later we’ve been inspired to return to Brixton for a regular residency at Electric Brixton, the freshly refurbished club in the original location.
“The energy at those events was incredible – a really mixed crowd would gather here – and the main purpose was to really let go and dance. There was no room for standing on the side-lines – it was an experience
We’ll be launching this Electric Brixton residency night with an old-school theme via a live performance from the Soul II Soul Sound System, featuring original grammy award winning lead singer Caron Wheeler, whose soulful vocals made tracks such as “Keep on Movin’” and “Back to Life” the instant and enduring classics that they have become.
We’re also proud to announce that on the opening night that Carl Macintosh from 80s Soul group Loose Ends has also been confirmed.
